April is dedicated to raising awareness about workplace violence prevention. Review policies, conduct training, and promote a safe work environment.
Who must comply
All employers. OSHA addresses workplace violence under the General Duty Clause, and several states have specific requirements — notably for healthcare and, in California, most employers under SB 553.
Background
Workplace violence is a leading cause of job-related fatalities in the U.S. April is recognized as Workplace Violence Awareness Month to push employers toward formal prevention programs.
How to celebrate at work
- Review or create a written workplace-violence prevention plan.
- Train staff on warning signs, de-escalation, and reporting channels.
- Check that incident reporting is easy, confidential, and acted upon.
